MANILA, Philippines – Snoopy’s iconic red, physics-defying doghouse, the one he awkwardly straddles and balances on as he gazes at the sky while getting all wise about life, is getting a design makeover. SM Megamall builds 6-foot replicas of Snoopy’s doghouse as part of Manila’s first “Peanuts Artland,” an exhibition celebrating 117th Philippine Independence Day and Peanuts’ 65th anniversary.
The exhibit, which will be held from June 2 to 14 at the Mega Fashion Hall, SM Megamall in collaboration with Art+ Magazine and Galerie Joaquin, will feature Snoopy doghouses designed by artists. First seen at Harbour City in Hong Kong as the “Snoopy Art & Life Exhibition” where Japanese artists transformed Snoopy into art installations, Manila’s “Peanuts Artland” will feature the world-famous beagle’s doghouse interpreted by Filipino and Global artists: fashion designer Rajo Laurel, sculptor and son of National Artist Abdulmari Imao Toym Imao, fashion photographer BJ Pascual, street artist Dee Jae Pa’este, sculptors Leeroy New, sisters Olivia and Alexandra d’Aboville, painter Dominic Rubio, with the special participation of Presidential Merit awardee Juvenal Sanso. The exhibit will also include works by Pop Artist, Ron English, Thai actor/model/artist, Mario Maurer, and Indonesian artist, Hahan in collaboration with F3 race car driver cum artist, Gaby dela Merced.
Private viewing happens on June 10, 5 p.m. at the Mega Fashion Hall featuring live art by Hahan in collaboration with Gaby dela Merced, Nelz Yumul of WeeWillDoodle, and a Peanuts fashion show featuring their latest collection. All Snoopy doghouses are for sale and proceeds from the exhibit will go to the SM Foundation’s school-building program for kids.
